Nadege Webb: Mystic River Resort
Sunday, 07 June 2009 00:00

Nadege WebbWho are you and where are you coming from?

My name is Nadege Webb and I was born and raised in France. I've lived in England and Canada and now Belize.

What is your activity right now?

I run a small (for now!) upscale resort in the Cayo District called Mystic River Resort. Check us out at www.mysticriverbelize.com.

Tell us why you choose to move to Belize?

After spending many years in the cold of Canada I decided that I wanted to be somewhere warm and preferably by the ocean. Belize totally fit the criteria, of language, diversity, ease of settlement AND weather I was looking for. It is a beautiful country that has a lot to offer. I settled first in San Pedro on Ambergris Caye for over 3 years, but then moved to Cayo almost 2 years ago. The pristine jungles, the vegetation and the slower pace of life drew me away from the ocean to here and I love it!.

How long have you been in Belize?

I first came to Belize in 1999, but settled permanently five wonderful years ago.

What do you miss the most, if anything?

My shoes!! When I lived in Toronto, I used to own over 100 pairs of shoes (with matching handbags!) but when I moved to San Pedro we had no paved streets so there went the shoes. I gave them all away and that was hard, but I know I found good homes for them all! Whenever I go back though I find myself staring in the shoe stores..... Have you seen the shoe fashion this year!! Awesome!! Anything else, like food items for example, I have learned to do without, but I do pig out on sushi when I got visit my kids in Canada!.

Did Belize brings you any surprises? Which ones?

Everyday in Belize is a surprise! Some good, some not so good, but overall I would say my experience here has been great. Belize has taught me to have patience. I have made wonderful friends here and I would say I lead a pretty wonderful life right now.

Any advices to give to the readers?

My advice would be for anyone wishing to settle here to remember that Belize is NOT the States or Canada or anywhere else you may be coming from. Belize is Belize and things are done at Belize pace. Don't wish for the things you left behind or you will be disappointed. They are the reasons you left in the first place! Things will change, again at Belize pace.

Do you have something else to share with us?

Again, do your homework before coming down and make sure that this is what you want. Warts and all!
